Partnerships

The partnership between the Rotary Club of Colombo and the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) of the Ministry of Health, goes back 18 years , formalized with the signing of an MOU between the two parties in April 2004, to set up the Cancer Early Detection Centre whereby Rotary would make available the building and equipment, and NCCP would run the operation through itsteam of Doctors and nurses.

The Centre was set up under the Rotary Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Project , launched to mark the 75 th Anniversary of the Club, and is the longest running and the flagship project of the Club who took on the fight against cancer . Addressing the urgent need for a stand- alone national facility, easily accessible to the public, dedicated for screening and early detection so as to encourage walk in clients and offer a speedy and comprehensive screening service, Rotary Club of Colombo came forward in partnership with the NCCP to establish the cancer early detection centre.

The screening in the cancer early detection centre is mainly facilitated by the equipment donated by The Rotary Foundation and other local and overseas donors, primarily major donor, Rotary Club of Birmingham Alabama USA and others through the Rotary network.Rotary meanwhile, has also engaged in advocacy and participated in formulating strategy for cancer control together with Ministry of Health .
